Fleitas puts NU on top for diamond win at home

Evelio Fleitas went deep for the game winner and Gary Daley struck out nine as the host Nevada Union baseball team topped Rio Americano of Sacramento 3-1 Tuesday.

With two outs and a runner on in the bottom of the fifth and the score tied 1-1, Fleitas drove the first pitch he saw over the fence in left center.

Fleitas went 2-for-3. Chris Brown went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

NU (14-12 overall, 10-9 Capital Athletic League) will host Bella Vista of Fair Oaks 4 p.m. In Thursday’s season finale.

FLC Falcons fall in error-filled loss

The Forest Lake Christian softball team collected four hits but committed seven errors in a 6-1 loss to Victory Christian in Carmichael Tuesday.

Victory led 6-0 before FLC (11-5 overall, 8-4 Sacramento Valley Christian League) got on the board in the seventh.

Joy Hicks, who was hitless in the game, drove in the Lady Falcons only run.

Jessica Pearce, Ashley Dickinson, Tracy Malone and Megan Paulk each singled.

Stephanie Tejeda, who struck out one, took the loss.

Bruins shut out by visiting Rocklin

The host Bear River softball team lost 8-0 to Rocklin Tuesday.

“We struggled. We did not have one of our best games today,” Lady Bruin head coach Duane Zauner said.

Cassie Smith, Michelle Mathis, Tiffany Klopfer and Brooke Meyers all singled.

Bear River will host Sierra Foothill League leader Roseville 4 p.m. in Thursday’s season finale.
