FLC still perfect in CVCL action

The Forest Lake Christian boys soccer team has impressed offensively through the first part of the Central Valley California League, scoring 16 goals in the first three games.

In Tuesday’s game against Cristo Rey, it was the defense’s time to shine. Falcon goalie Kyle Soria made 17 saves and assisted on a goal as FLC won its fourth straight league game, 2-0.

FLC defensemen Tyler Young, Sean Kadera, Daniel Cuneo and Jason Foster played well, holding the Saints without a goal.

On the offensive end, senior Logan Ray netted a goal, coming off a Soria assist. Ray also assisted on FLC’s other goal, which was put in by Hunter Semen.

The Falcons (10-4-2, 4-0 CVCL) are back on the pitch Friday at Delta.

Girls golf

Woodcreek 267, Nevada Union 304

In their final duel of the 2013 season, the Lady Miners fell to Woodcreek at Alta Sierra Country Club.

In their final outing, Samantha Felhofer led NU with a 56, Carly Keogh shot a 58, Sydni Smith tallied a 60, and Sierra Wood along with Kendahl Landreth rounded things out with 65s.

Cross Country

Bruins tally bests at Clovis Invitational

Bear River’s cross country team traveled to Fresno Saturday for the Clovis Invitational.

Eight athletes made the trip to compete on the highly competitive state course.

Brandon Murphy and Patrick Gillis represented the Bruins in the D-IV varsity boys 5K race. In a field of 216 runners, Murphy placed 86th with a personal best time of 17 minutes, 35 seconds, and Gillis placed 125th with a time of 18:10.

Leading the Lady Bruins again this week was senior, Sierra Mitchell who ran a career best time of 20:31, 65th place out of 210 D-IV varsity girls in the 5K race. Freshman Viviana Chavez was the next Bruin to cross the finish line in 126th, 21:57, followed by Cecilia Malik in 146th, 22:36, Jessica Meylor in 147th, 22:37, Olivia Scinto in 204th, 28:53, and Taylor Autrey in 206th, 29:54.

Bear River cross country will compete in the second Pioneer Valley League meet at Colfax today.
