FLC soccer snaps skid with win over Cofax

Forest Lake Christian’s varsity soccer team snapped a three-match skid Tuesday by downing visiting Colfax by a 3-2 count.

FLC sophomore Randy Van Winkle had two goals in the win, while junior Michael McCowan added the third score for the host Falcons.

Kopec liked seeing the offense out of a pair of varsity newcomers, although having graduated 26 of the players from his roster the past two seasons, almost every Falcon on the field is short on experience.

“We were able to practice for the past three day and worked some things out,” said FLC coach Thad Kopec. “We’re still very young and very inexperienced, but we have to overcome our weaknesses with aggressiveness and desire.

“And that’s what this game was all about today.”

Kopec also tipped his cap to the play of Aaron Anderson in goal. As Colfax picked up the pace, “pounding the ball,” Kopec said Anderson rose to the challenge.

“My goalkeeper made some amazing saves,” he said.

The Falcons (2-3 overall) travel to Nevada Union for a 4 p.m. match today.
