FLC puts on 53-point rout

Though he was without his top two post players Friday night, Forest Lake Christian girls coach Steve Kellar wasn’t exactly worried that he’d miss their presence against Country Day.

After all, Kellar’s Falcons (18-3 overall, 8-0) and Country Day’s Cavaliers (5-11, 1-7) are on the opposite ends of the Central Valley Christian League standings.

And, through the course of a 90-37 rout, FLC didn’t exactly leave a window of opportunity open for their guests.

Eleven Falcons found the scoring column, including five in double digits, as FLC’s balanced offensive attack bounced the Cavs from contention early.

Olympia Jacobs and Taylor Kilgore each scored 13 points, while Jessica Pearce (12) Mackenzie Deneen (11) and Julia Hall (10) also reached double digits.

The Falcons were without the services of forwards Lauren Jackson and Caitlyn Kramer. Jackson, who injured her knee in last weekend’s loss to Piedmont, is scheduled for an MRI Monday. Kramer, Kellar said, was suspended for disciplinary reasons.

With six CVCL games still on the slate, Kellar said he’ll need the skills of both Jackson and Kramer. But, he added, FLC will host all of their matchups with league contenders down the backstretch.

“Our toughest games will be at home,” he said. “Waldorf (14-7, 5-2), Victory (14-6, 4-3) and Woodland Christian (18-2, 6-1) are the three teams just behind us – and they all come here.

“So we do have a favorable schedule with those games being at home.”
