Fishin’ dude

Nine-year-old Kevin Pugel did his Alta Sierra neighbors a favor late last month, reeling in what had become somewhat of a neighborhood nuisance. Pugel caught this 12-pound, 24-inch trophy catfish at a neighborhood private pond on July 29.

“This darn catfish has been breaking everybody’s line around here,” said Kevin’s father, Rick Pugel. “It got away earlier in the evening. We were using an 8-pound leader, but then we went to a 12-pound leader.

“About 45 minutes later, just at dark, he caught it. It took about 15-20 minutes to bring that thing in. He’s a total fishing dude now.”

Rick said his family thoroughly enjoyed his son’s haul – cajun-style.
