Falcons’ season ends in section quarterfinal loss

Forest Lake Christian held a 21-19 lead at halftime of its Division V quarterfinal clash with host Ripon Christian Friday night, but the Falcons faltered when senior star Josh Ritchart was plagued by foul trouble in the second half.

Outscoring FLC 21-6 in the third quarter, Ripon Christian took command en route to a 59-35 victory.

“We played them really well,” said FLC coach David Thomas. “We came out in the third quarter and didn’t execute as well as we could have. And Josh got into foul trouble with four fouls, so we had to take him out.”

Ripon Christian’s 6-foot, 8-inch center Tyler Goslinga totaled 20 points on the night, while Logan Voss buried five 3-pointers in the second half to help spark the surge for the Knights.

FLC (13-12) was led by Ritchart’s 16 points, while Garrett Boatman added 11.

The loss marked the end of a celebrated high school career for Ritchart, FLC’s 6-8 UC Davis recruit.

The Falcons posted a 70-42 record during his four years at the varsity level, including two trips to Arco Arena and the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V championship game. FLC claimed the section crown in 2008 and was the Division V runner-up in ’09.

“It is sad to see him go,” said Thomas, “but at the same time he’s been such an asset to the program for so long. It’s going to be fun to see what God has in store for Josh.

“So we’re excited about the future for him, too.”
