In a lopsided game at the Grass Valley Veterans Memorial Building, the Event Helper women’s basketball team routed the Betty White Ballers, 71-41, and in the process took home its second consecutive Nevada County Adult Sports Association championship.

Event Helper leaned heavily on Lauren Juric’s inside presence, Michelle Wallace’s outside shooting and Rexanne Simpton’s fierce defense and passing savvy to keep the Betty White Ballers from making it close.

Juric finished with a game-high 25 points, Wallace added 18, including four 3-pointers, and Simpton chipped in nine points while frustrating the Betty White Ballers with her tenacious defense.

For the Betty White Ballers, Jen Wilson led the way with 16 points, including three 3-pointers. Wilson was held in check through the first half but found her groove in the second, scoring 13 of her 16 in the final two quarters.

In the first quarter, it didn’t take long for Event Helper to build a substantial lead. Midway through the first, Event Helper had grabbed a 20-7 lead, but a couple of late buckets by the Betty White Ballers pulled the score to single digits at 20-11.

In the second quarter, Event Helper began to pull away, getting nine points from Juric and eight from Wallace.

Event Helper would go on to outscore the Betty White Ballers 23-10 in the quarter and take a 43-21 halftime lead.

A flurry of points by Wilson and a three-point play converted by Mallory Fleenor in the third brought the Betty White Ballers back to within 16, but that was as close as they got.

Event Helper went on to score the final 10 points of the quarter and never looked back.

The Betty White Ballers got strong play from Hayden Fleenor, Kelly McSweeney and Kindra Amalong in the loss.

Aiding in the victory for Event Helper was Jessica Walker, Beth Whittlesey, Meghan Burt, Mackenzie Deneen and Haley Sweet. Lauren Maddux is a member of Event Helper but was not in attendance at the championship game.
