Division V Boys: Falcons welcome Sac Adventist for first-round game

The high-flying Forest Lake Christian offense will look to pound out another victory when they host No. 13 seed Sacramento Adventist tonight to open the Division V Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

The Falcons (18-9) have scored 74.6 points per game this season and have an edge on their opponents of 17 points per outing.

They’ve been led by a quartet of players who score consistently in double figures. The brotherly duo of Josh Ritchart and Andrew Ritchart are combining for 29.8 points per game, Ben Sparling is averaging 13.7 a game and Austin Maynard is hitting 12.5 points per contest.

In contrast, Sacramento Adventist (10-11) is averaging 57 points per game and giving up another 62.

But the Falcons have consistently noted that defense will be their key in this season because putting in buckets certainly isn’t a problem.

“If we can improve defensively, that will be the difference in how competitive we are because we can score against most teams in our division,” FLC coach David Thomas said in December. “But it’s going to depend on our defense whether we turn the corner in getting through the playoffs.”
