Diver set for trip to sections

With another All-American dive score, Forest Lake Christian’s Nikka Campora secured her place in the Sac-Joaquin Section diving finals.

At the trials, held at Thursday at Oakmont, only the top eight divers advance to the section finals. Campora, competing against 24 other divers, finished with a total of 422 points to take home first place honors. The second placed diver ended the day with 359 points.



Campora will compete against the top eight divers from the north and south of the section for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championship on Saturday at Oakmont.

Softball




Bear River 9-8, Mesa Verde 2-3

Jenna Wermes had five RBIs on two doubles in the Bruins’ first game of a home doubleheader.

Britney Ceo pitched the complete game with seven strikeouts, no walks and four hits.

Rebecca Zauner was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Kelly Shepard was 2-for-3, and Tera Reason and Traci Hart each had hits.

In the second game, for Bear River (7-4) Wermes was also 2-for-3, and Zauner was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Kathryn Rabak had a two-RBI triple in Bear River’s four-run fourth inning. Hart had a two-RBI single in the fourth.

Shepard earned the win as she lasted five innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Ceo relieved Shepard in the sixth and got the save with a pair of strikeouts.

With no chance of making the playoffs, the Bruins head to Colfax on Thursday for their 4 p.m. season finale.

Baseball

Frosh: Oakmont 9, Nevada Union 4

Despite the solid pitching of Rob Porter, Oakmont scored eight unearned runs Tuesday against the Miners in a nonleague game.
