The Nevada Union mountain bike team headed south to Salinas to race in the Central Coast Challenge at Laguna Seca this past weekend, to compete in its third NorCal League race of the season.

With several quality finishes the Miners now stand in fourth place overall in Division I, Northern Conference.

Leading the NU riders was Sarah Brennan, finishing first in the girls sophomore race and retaining her leader’s jersey. In the boys sophomore race, Keegan Zetterberg reached the podium with a second place finish and Casey Fites-Kaufman joined him on the podium after finishing fifth. Three other NU racers also earned top-10 finishes with Louisa Sussman earning seventh in the junior varsity girls race, Keeley Martinez finishing 10th and Ryan Bernadette placing ninth in the boys junior varsity race.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team,” said head coach Eric Newman. “They train, race hard and leave it all out there on race day. They have my respect.”
