Cross country: Pizella impresses at Roughrider Invitational

Nevada Union sent six varsity runners to Fresno Friday for the Roughrider Invitational at Woodward Park, site of the annual CIF state cross country championships.

Finishing the evening race with a personal record for the course was junior Nora Pizella, placing seventh out of 152 with a time of 19 minutes, 17 seconds. Sophomore Erika Wolf came in 11th with a time of 19:51, also a course PR. Junior Joy Castro-Wehr was 25th with 20:21, and freshman Anya Cooper-Hynell came in 30th with a time of 20:33. Jordyn Zorn of Monache High was first with 18:49.

Running in the final race of the day was freshman Ben Fogiel placing 65th out of 209 runners with a time of 17:18, while senior Max Arnds came in 79th with a time of 17:29. Coming in first was one of the top ranked Division I runners in the state, Eduardo Herrera from Madera South High with 15:29.

The Nevada Union cross country team will train for the next two weeks, preparing for the Sierra Foothill League championships on Oct. 31 in Rocklin.
