COMMUNITY GOLF: Camaraderie and competition highlight Ryder Cup Tournament at Alta Sierra Country Club

Submitted to The Union

Camaraderie and competition were in store as Alta Sierra Country Club Men’s and Women’s clubs teed off for the eighth annual Ryder Cup Tournament held on Oct. 9-10.

Wednesday’s format consisted of 9 holes of alternate shot matches in the morning followed by 9 holes of four-ball (better ball) in the afternoon. Power outages didn’t deter the 44 golfers and at the end of the day the women held a two-point lead. The 22 individual matches on Thursday determined the winner with the Men’s Club eking out a 22 ½ to 21-½ point victory.

Men’s team captain Jeff Wilde and his assistant Kim Olson along with Women’s team Captain Barbara Quinn and assistants Debe Wilson and Andi Davis did a stellar job organizing this fun event.

Special thanks go out to Megan Louder, Chef Chris Bernard, Brian Glosser and all support staff at Alta Sierra Country Club for making this event possible under difficult circumstances. Brad Stewart, member participant, donated his generator to make sure there was ice and electric carts charged.
