Chip Shots – NU Basketball Boosters host tourney

The Nevada Union Basketball Boosters are planning their second annual Golf Classic Tournament, to be held Oct. 4 at DarkHorse Golf Club.

In addition to 18 holes of golf, there will be a short-game clinic, putting contest, hole-in-one and closest-to-the-pin contests, a 3-point hoop shoot and a raffle. Lunch, dinner and awards are included in the $125 entry fee per player.

Proceeds are directed to both the girls and boys basketball programs, as well as the Nevada Union High School athletic department.

For more information on sponsoring the event or to register as a player, please call Bob Weberg at (530) 742-1010. Entry deadline is Sept. 22.

Hole in one

Clark Gillis of Grass Valley carded the first hole in one in his career on Aug. 12 at Alta Sierra Country Club.

Gillis used a 5-iron to ace Alta’s No. 3 from 176 yards out.

The feat was witnessed by Sean Gillis and Andrew Patts.
