Ceo’s season ends as Texas falls to Tennessee in WCWS

OKLAHOMA CITY — Stephanie Ceo, a 2012 Bear River graduate, played in pair of games in the Women’s College World Series for her No. 4 ranked Texas Longhorns Sunday as the team eliminated No. 2 Florida with a 3-0 win and was then knocked out of the tournament with a 2-1 loss against No. 7 Tennessee.

Ceo started at second base batting ninth in the lineup and went a combined 1-for-5 at the plate to finish with a .333 average.

Blaire Luna struck out 14 in the one-hit shut out victory over Florida as Kim Bruins hit a three-run homer.

The Lady Longhorns received their first loss in the double-elimination round of bracket play Saturday when they fell to No. 1 Oklahoma, 10-2. In that game Ceo went 1-for-2 batting. Texas went up 2-0 in the top half of the third on an RBI-single and also drew a walk with the bases loaded, but Oklahoma answered in the bottom half of the inning with six runs.

In the final game, Tennessee’s Lauren Gibson hit a solo home run in the first inning as Renfroe sisters combined on a five-hitter for the win. The Lady Vols (52-10) are in the finals for the second time and will now play No. 1 Oklahoma in a best-of three series beginning today.
