Bulldogs take tourney title

The Bulldogs went over to Colfax Aug. 21-22 and brought home a fastpitch softball tournament title with a 4-0 record.

The Bulldogs, who won the Grass Valley men’s fastpitch regular-season title with an 18-4 record, beat the Oroville Dirtbags 12-11, then Sonoma’s Haddleys Plumbing 10-6 in Saturday’s pool play. In Sunday’s single elimination, the Bulldogs again played Sonoma and again beat them, this time 15-3. In the championship game, the Bulldogs edged Grass Valley’s Anything Green, which won the local postseason tournament, 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bulldogs’ Jarret Roenicke was named MVP of the tournament, after batting .714 over two days. All tourney honors also went to Even King, Justin Deme, Matt House and Chris Friedman.
