Bruins’ softball awards keep coming

The Bear River Bruins softball team collected three more awards last week, with coach Duane Zauner receiving Cal-Hi Sports coach of the year at a mid-size school, according to the preps sports Web site.

Pitcher Kelly Shepard and infielder Courtney Ceo were named to the all-state team, making Bear River the only school in the state of California to have more than one player make the team.

Zauner was previously honored as coach of the year in the Pioneer Valley League after the Bruins won the league title and eventually the Sac-Joaquin section championship.

Shepard, who will play for Sacramento State next year, was named PVL MVP while Ceo was named to the league’s first team. Ceo, a sophomore, has verbally committed to Oregon.
