Bruins send 3 to section meet

The Bear River cross country team traversed the Sac-Joaquin sub-sections Saturday at Frogtown, and will be sending three runners on to the section meet.

The Bruins brought 11 runners with the goal of finishing high enough as a team to make the section meet.

In order to qualify for the section meet, Bear River needed to finish no worse then 10th as a team. The Lady Bruins girls team placed 13th.

Despite the team not advancing to Saturday’s section meet, Bear River did qualify three individuals.

Sierra Mitchell qualified in the girls varsity Division-IV race, placing ninth with a time of 21 minutes and 3 seconds. Mitchell will be racing for one of five individual spots that qualify for the California state meet.

Vivian Chavez qualified in the girls frosh/soph race, placing third overall in the 2-mile race with a time of 14:08.

The lone boy Bruin making the trip to the section meet is Patrick Gillis, who placed fifth in the sophomore boys 2-mile race with a time of 12:40.

The section meet will take place Saturday at Willow Hill in Folsom.
