The Bear River boys basketball team survived a scare from the Oakmont Vikings Thursday, pulling out a 58-42 win at home.
Down 25-24 at halftime, the Bruins went on an 18-7 run in the third quarter to grab the lead and followed with a 16-10 final quarter to seal the win.
“We settled down and did a better job of taking care of the ball,” said Bear River assistant coach Steve Box. “Oakmont is a patient team, aggressive on defense. They have a good press. We kind of let ourselves get a little rattled in the first half.”
Senior Jake Kirby led the Bruin scoring with 15 points, with six coming in the pivotal third quarter.
Box called the game a “coming out party” for C. J. Crausby, who scored seven points in the second half and 10 overall.
“C.J. has really raised his level of play,” Box said. “He’s fearless on the court. He came in after football and I think there was a period of adjustment for him. The last couple of games, you can tell he’s just more comfortable out there.”
Axel Wadman added 13 for the Bruins, who raised their league mark to 4-3 and 9-10 overall. Bear River will host Lincoln Tuesday.
