Bruins, Falcons fall in volleyball playoffs

Both the Bear River and Forest Lake Christian girls volleyball teams’ postseason runs were cut short Thursday.

Seventh-seeded Bear River, which came from behind to beat No. 10 Vanden (Fairfield) in their Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Tournament first round matchup Nov. 12, fell 15-3, 15-1, 15-10 to No.2 and three-time defending champ St. Francis in Sacramento Thursday.

FLC, division V’s third seed, got 11 kills from Leyna Allred and nine blocks each from Micah Violet and Melody Bayless, but it wasn’t enough in a 15-6, 15-7, 11-15, 15-11 road loss to No.2 Woodland Christian.

“I never expected we’d get this far. I have no complaints,” FLC head coach Travis Smith said.

Hayley Gowin finished with a team-high 12 assists in the loss.

Brynne Edwards totaled seven kills. Bayless chipped in five kills.

Shari Spangler tallied six assists.
