The Bear River and Vista del Lago volleyball teams have been here before.

Almost a year ago to the day, the Bruins and the Eagles matched up in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division-II semifinals. On that day, it was Vista del Lago that walked off its home court with a three-set victory that catapulted them into the section finals, which it also won in straight sets.

Tonight, the Bruins will walk onto that same Vista del Lago court in the same playoff scenario but hoping they walk off with a much better result this time.

Bear River enters the 7 p.m. contest with an overall record of 22-11 and riding straight-set wins over Burbank and Rio Linda in the first two rounds of the playoffs. The Eagles enter the contest at 23-9 and as the Sierra Valley Conference champs. Vista del Lago went 12-0 in conference play and yielded only three sets along the way.

The Bruins are no stranger to stiff competition though, having already taken down a league champ in Rio Linda (Capital Valley Conference).

The Eagles reached the semifinals by defeating Rio Americano in four sets.

Whitney, which took the CAL championship this season, takes on Valley in the other semifinal.

The rematch, with a berth into the section title game on the line, takes place at 7 p.m. today at Vista del Lago.
