Brown named new Bear River baseball coach

Bear River High School announced the hiring of David Brown as the new varsity baseball coach Friday.

He will begin his coaching position with the spring season but is busy now with scheduling and meeting with players. He coached previously at Granite Bay and El Camino High Schools.

Brown comes to Bear River with 26 years of coaching experience at nearly every level of baseball, including Challenger Division for Special Needs children, all levels of Little League and 16 years at local high schools.

“My goal is to establish a winning program by putting a competitive team together to challenge for a league title and attain a spot in the Sac-Joaquin playoffs,” said Brown in a press release. “My philosophy is simple: Student-athletes are expected to conduct themselves properly and to achieve at the highest level possible. This includes respect for teachers, peers, school property and to do their best academically, physically and emotionally.”

Duwaine Ganskie, Bear River’s athletic director, said he is looking forward to Brown solidifying the position for years to come.

“We look forward to a long and successful coaching career with coach Brown,” Ganskie said in a press release. “He is a valuable addition to our baseball program and we anticipate a great season.”

Brown takes over for Mo Barrios who served as the interim coach last season after former head coach Darohl Ennis was asked to step down.

Bear River went 11-16 overall last season and was 6-9 in Pioneer Valley League play. Bear River hasn’t made the playoffs since 2011 and hasn’t won a PVL title since sharing the 2011 title with Lincoln.
