BR Bruins let lead slip away
The Bear River baseball team’s woes on the diamond continued in its Sierra Foothill League matchup with host Granite Bay Monday.
The Bruins (1-3 SFL) led by three runs after the second inning, but gave up four runs down the stretch – including a seventh inning walk off home run – to lose 5-4.
“We got up on them early, then our offense just (disappeared),” Bruin head coach Mike Viola said. “We just let them nibble their way back into the game. They just seemed to want it more than we did.”
Brian Hart hit a home run and finished at 2-for-3. Nick LaRash also went 2-for-3. Keith Roberts had two RBIs.
Bear River will host Woodcreek of Roseville at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
FLC softball beats Capitol Christian in 11-1 outing
Megan Paulk struck out seven and gave up one hit as the host Forest Lake Christian softball team beat Capitol Christian of Sacramento 11-1 in a mercy-rule shortened game Monday.
FLC (1-0 overall) led by a run after two complete innings, but exploded for nine in fifth to end the game.
Ashley Dickenson and Tracy Malone went 2-for-3 with a double each.
Paulk went 2-for-4 with a double. Braeden Huusfeldt also had a double.
FLC will open Central Valley Christian League play against Sacramento Adventist at home today. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
NU track finishes strong at meet
The Nevada Union boys and girls track relay teams grabbed four first-place finishes at Granite Bay Saturday.
The team of Steven Conrad, Thor Juell, Ryder Heidelberger and Andrew Meyers set a meet record in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1 minute, 30.06 seconds.
Conrad, Heidelberger and Meyers then teamed with Chris Sheridan to win the 4×100 with a time of 43.18.
Conrad, Juell and Ryan Montgomery each tied for first in the long jump.
For the girls, the team Sarah Heidelberger, Sarah Prout, Lauren Zealear and Jessica Lorson won both the 4×400 relay (4:07) and the 4×100 relay.
Forest Lake Christian stays undefeated on the links
The Forest Lake Christian boys golf team kept its unbeaten streak intact with a 231-247 win over host Vacaville Christian Monday.
The Falcons (5-0 overall, 3-0 Central Valley Christian League) were led by co-medalist Ben Farnum’s 42.
Bryan Zard and Nick Brown each carded 45s. David Hicks was right behind with a 46.
Mike Hitchcock rounded out Falcon scoring with a 53.
FLC will play at Woodland Christian 3 p.m. Thursday.
