The big orange machine that is EventHelper.com did it again, winning their second straight Nevada County Fast Pitch Softball League championship Friday with a thrilling, 6-5, extra inning victory over Gold Country Automotive.

Under the lights at Les Eva Field at Memorial Park, with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, right fielder Ben Maddux dug into the batters box and laced a single to right field driving in Nick Ullom for the walk-off win.

“I was nervous man,” said Maddux. “There was a lot on the line there; the whole season. I just had to step up and hit a pitch.”

Maddux had been 0-for-2 with two walks before his walk off RBI single.

The victory by EventHelper.com ends a spirited Cinderella run by the No. 6 seed Gold Country Automotive, who had beat the No. 3 seed and No. 2 seeds to reach the final.

Gold Country had built a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, but a three-run inning for EventHelper.com, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Donavan Chilton that scored Kyler Caldwell (running for Donner Walters) and Daryl Allen switched the momentum. Third baseman Mike Fouyer followed with an RBI single to drive in Chilton, knotting up the contest.

Coming up big offensively throughout the game for EventHelper.com was Allen with two hits including a double, Walters added two hits and an RBI and Robby Zydonis with two hits including a double,

Earning the win from the circle was Will Maddux, going all nine innings, allowing nine hits and two earned runs while striking out 12.

“Absolutely I knew these guys were going to pull through,” Will Maddux said. “I just try to execute every pitch. I don’t get ahead of myself otherwise it will be more damage then there already was. I got to take my hat off to these guys. Their the No. 6 seed and they’ve beaten everybody in the league and their really tough all the way through the lineup.”

Putting pressure on EventHelper.com for Gold Country was Chad Garvey with a 4-for-4 night including a pair of doubles and an RBI, Rey Saclolo added an RBI and a triple, Matt Custer ripped an RBI double and Mat Johnson added an RBI triple.

Gold Country also played well in the field, turning four double plays in the game.

For EventHelper.com it solidifies their spot at the top of the league, but also serves notice that the league is chalked full of talented teams.
