Better all the time

Lake Wildwood was closed to open play today due to scheduled tournaments, so I posted Monday’s game of nine holes.

It was an interesting one.

I had four bogies and one par. I even got lucky again and chipped in a shot off the fairway into the cup on hole number three. But somehow, I finished the round with a 56.

I wasn’t as consistent as I had planned with two penalty and five bunker shots, but then that’s the great thing about golf. You never know how the game will turn out until it’s over.

The last six weeks have been a lot fun for me.

In this short period of time, my game has improved by at least 20 strokes thanks to Steve Madden’s conditioning program, which enabled me to put into practice Carlis Gilbert’s swing instructions. I feel so positive about the program’s direction and success that I’m considering continuing the physical training part with Steve. Of course, I’ll also need some more lessons from Carlis, but I want to maintain body control and flexibility so the lessons will have the greatest impact.

All in all, Fit for the Fairways has been a wonderful experience. In addition to getting into shape, I’ve met a lot of very nice people who followed my weekly travails and offered words of encouragement and support as well as a many, many golf tips of their own.

I also learned to appreciate what a fun and challenging sport golf can be.
