Bear River vs. Placer football game rescheduled due to Auburn shootings

The Pioneer Valley League football game between Bear River High School and Placer High School has been rescheduled due to officer related shootings in Auburn.

Bear River Athletic Director Duwaine Ganskie said the game will be moved to Saturday at the request of the Placer County Sheriff’s office.

On Friday, a massive manhunt ended in arrests in Auburn after two police officers were shot and killed in Sacramento and Auburn. The Placer County Sherriff’s told Placer High School to postpone the game so as to not hinder any ongoing investigation, said Ganskie.

“It’s the only call,” he said. “We would love to have them come here tonight, but that’s not reasonable. So it’s the right call and the only call.”

The games will resume Saturday at Placer’s LeFebvre Stadium. The junior varsity game will take place at 5:15 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
