Bear River and Forest Lake Christian duked it out for south county boys soccer supremacy to no avail under the lights of J.David Ramsey Stadium Monday.

The non-league match featured wall-to-wall action but no goals as the Lake of the Pines neighbors had to settle for a 0-0 tie.

“It was like the teams were in hyper drive, particularly in the first 20, 30 minutes. The pace was tremendous. I think the cold weather really got these guys going,” Bruin head coach Dave Molina said.

The match was a back-and-forth affair for most of the 80 minutes, with neither team backing down at the offensive end.

FLC head coach Thad Kopec had a lot of praise for his team despite the final score.

“This match was really exciting to watch. The first half was even on shots, but we outshot them 8-2 in the second half, (so), we had our chances. The guys really picked it up and pushed really hard. (They) showed me a lot of character,” he said.

Bear River goalkeeper Andy Adams finished with a match-high15 saves.

“He played one of his best games (ever). He’s smart, talented, he’s got great hands and anticipation. He’s one of the best goalkeepers we’ve had around here in years,” Molina said.

Adams’ counterpart, Joe Martin, tallied eight saves.

Bear River will next play at Mesa Verde of Citrus Heights 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Falcons will travel to Sacramento Country Day 4 p.m. Friday.
