Bear River falls short against Vanden in playoffs

SACRAMENTO ” It simply came down to fundamentals and execution.

Vanden put four runs on the scoreboard and played solid defense to support the five-hit pitching of Scott Stewart as the Vikings from Fairfield outlasted Bear River, 4-2, in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III baseball playoffs Saturday afternoon.

Bear River (22-2) scored once in the top of the first inning, however, five errors in the field proved costly and Vanden (20-3) capitalized to pull out the “do-or-die” victory at Pat McAuliffe Memorial Park.
