Bear River cruises at Folsom Tournament

Bear River’s softball team cruised through the Folsom Tournament on Saturday, pounding all three opponents, winning the pool and refusing to give up even one run.

The Bruins (9-1) started the day with an 8-0 win against Rosemont before beating Calaveras 3-0. To finish the day, they trounced Monterey Trail, 25-0.

“It was just another great day for us,” Bear River coach Duane Zauner said. “We have a lot of confidence going into our first league game.”

The Bruins open Pioneer Valley League play at 4 p.m. Wednesday with a home game against Placer.

Sisters Brittany and Courtney Ceo combined for a no-hitter in the five-inning win over Rosemont, as Brittany Ceo started and threw one inning before Courtney Ceo took over and finished.

In the second game, Brittany Ceo gave up two hits in six innings of work.

Leading the Bruins on offense were Katie Mathis (five hits total, two homers, five RBIs), Courtney Ceo (six hits, two RBIs and a double), Tori Humbard (five hits, five RBIs, two doubles), Kathryn Rabak (three hits, one homer, two RBIs), and Jenna Wermes (two doubles, two RBIs).

Bear River totaled 37 hits in the three wins.
