Bear River boys win pre-season tilt

Gopal Cabrera scored a game-high 24 points, including six three pointers, to lead the host Bear River boys to a 65-57 preseason basketball win over Marysville Tuesday.

The Bruins led by 25 points after the third quarter, but were outscored 28-11 in the fourth as the Indians made a game of it.

“We were down to the end of our bench in the fourth quarter, but more than that, we just lost our composure,” Bruin assistant coach Steve Box said.

Bear River’s Steve Sacher drained a pair of three-pointers to finish with 10 points.

Dusty Tabellija chipped in nine points. Keith Marin had eight points.

Bear River’s JV, on 16 points from Matt Mocek and 14 more from Brian Wood, won 72-38.

Devon Grebe scored 13 to lead the Bruin freshman to a 45-30 win.

Next up for Bear River’s varsity will be its annual alumni game 6 p.m. Wednesday.
