After hours of intensive private testing over the winter months, the wait for Alexander Rossi was finally over as he turned his first lap as an official Formula BMW USA driver in the series’ opening day of spring training in Atlanta late last month.

“It’s awesome,” Rossi said of his first morning on the circuit, “I just got comfortable with the car and I look forward to the afternoon.”

Earlier this year, Rossi teamed up with Hearn Motorsports for the 2007 Formula BMW USA championship season.

The afternoon sessions saw the 15-year-old Nevada City driver improve his times; gaining more than half a second to the opposition and ending his day with the seventh quickest lap overall of the 19 drivers. Day two saw even more encouraging lap times.

“I am happy with my progression.” Rossi said when asked how he evaluated his first weekend of Formula BMW USA official testing. “I’ve come to grips with this track and we have moved steadily forward with my driving and car-set up in every session.”

Rossi’s next stop in the Formula BMW USA testing is Saturday and Sunday at Virginia International Raceway in Danville, Va.
