Here’s a look at how some college athletes with local ties fared recently:

BASKETBALL



Womens




Nicole Scott (Bear River ’03); Sierra College (Rocklin) – The freshman forward totaled 14 points in a 65-54 win over Napa Valley College Jan. 13.

Briana Thomas (BR ’02); The Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The sophomore forward finished with four rebounds, three points and a steal in a 65-43 loss to the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque) Saturday.

Tami Swanson-Cades (Nevada Union ’99); California State Polytechnic University-Pomona – The senior guard had six assists, four rebounds, two points and a steal in a 59-57 loss to CSU-San Francisco Saturday.

Mens

Jon Sheets (NU ’03); Yuba College (Marysville) – The freshman point guard scored 19 points, including five three pointers, in a 92-90 double-overtime win over Sacramento City College Jan. 13.

SKIING

Zach Violett (NU ’99); The University of Alaska-Anchorage – The junior nordic skiier turned in a time of 25 minutes, 29.5 seconds to take 15th at the NCAA Regional Freestyle 10K at the Aubrun Ski Club Training Center Jan. 15.

WRESTLING

Paul Gross (NU ’99); Stanford University (Palo Alto) – The senior 133-pounder defeated the University of Oregon’s (Eugene) Jason Harless 3-1 in Stanford’s 31-6 PAC-10 opening win Jan. 15.
