ALUMNI NOTEBOOK: Maxwell’s hot bat helps Menlo to series win

Dalton Maxwell, a 2015 Nevada Union graduate, and the Menlo College baseball team won three out of four against conference foe Ottawa University (Arizona) last week.

Maxwell, a senior second baseman, impressed at the plate, going 7-for-16 with two doubles, a triple, nine RBIs and four runs scored across the four game series.

For the season, Maxwell is batting .363 with 12 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 22 RBIs.

Maxwell has been an integral member of the Oaks team for the past four seasons, starting more than 150 games and notching 165 hits along the way.

During Maxwell’s time at Nevada Union he was an All-Sierra Foothill League Selection at shortstop.

Menlo (11-21, 7-17) is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) school that competes in the Golden State Athletic Conference.

Matt Lopez, a 2016 Bear River graduate, and the Sierra College baseball team took two out of three against Modesto Junior College last week.

Lopez, a sophomore first baseman, went 6-for-10 from the plate with two doubles, two RBIs, four walks and nine runs scored in the three-game series. For the season, Lopez has started all 32 of Sierra’s games, is batting .409, has five home runs, 40 RBIs and 41 runs scored.

Sierra (25-7, 13-5) competes in the California Community College Athletic Association’s Big 8 Conference.
