ALUMNI NOTEBOOK: Roenicke notches strong start, helps Sky Sox top Storm Chasers

Minor league pitcher Josh Roenicke started on the bump for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Monday, helping his team to a 2-1 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Roenicke, a 32-year-old righty, threw the first 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, two walks and one earned run. He did not figure into the decision.

Roenicke did not factor into the decision in his July 22 start against Nashville either, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs before exiting. The Sky Sox ended up winning that game, 4-3, in walk-off fashion. In that game, Roenicke’s Nashville counterpart was Barry Zito.

On the season, Roenicke has 17 appearances and 15 starts, a 5-7 record and a 5.00 ERA.

Now in his 10th professional season, Roenicke has had Major League stints with the Cincinnati Reds (2008-09), Toronto Blue Jays (2009-10), Colorado Rockies (2011-12) and the Minnesota Twins (2013).

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox, a Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, are currently 41-59 overall and in last place in the Pacific Coast League’s American Northern Division.
