ALUMNI NOTEBOOK: Nevada Union alum Kyle Cammon places 6th in state

Yuba Community College sophomore Kyle Cammon, a 2014 Nevada Union graduate, recently competed in the California Community College Athletic Association’s Track & Field State Championships at San Diego’s Mesa College.

The former basketball player and track and field standout at Nevada Union, competed in the hammer throw at the state championships, earning sixth place with a throw of 49.75. Daniel Roberts from Modesto Junior College finished first with a mark of 62.87.

Yuba College’s mens team finished in 12th place at the state meet. Mt. San Antonio College finished first as a team.


Zach Welz, a 2011 Bear River graduate, continues to find his way with the Inland Empire 66ers, an Advanced Class A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels.

Welz, an outfielder, played in seven games last week and was a force at the plate. Welz went 5-for-19 last week with four RBIs.

On the season, Welz has played in 24 games for the 66ers, is batting .268 with 22 hits, four doubles, 11 RBIs and eight walks.

The 66ers went 4-3 last week and is 18-34 overall in the California League South Division.
