Alumni Notebook: Lierly helps Lady Cougars to win

Nicole Lierly, a 2013 Nevada Union graduate and freshman guard for the Cal State University, San Marcos, girls basketball team, helped the Lady Cougars as they split a pair of games last week, as she went 4-of-4 at the foul line.

Lierly contributed five minutes off the bench in Tuesday’s 78-54 loss versus Vanguard. San Marcos was held to just 38.2 percent shooting and just 1-of-9 from downtown. Yet the Lady Cougars roared back in Friday’s game versus Dakota State with a 76-66 victory where Lierly finished a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line for four points to go with a block. San Marcos built a 14-point lead, and Dakota State rallied late, but the Lady Cougars dominated under the basket, outscoring their opponent 38-20 in the paint.

Cal State University, San Marcos (7-9), will hit the court again Dec. 30 versus Vanguard.
