Alumni notebook: Daley drops Cal, loses streak
Here’s a look at how some athletes with local ties fared recently at the college level:
Ali Daley (Nevada Union, ’05); UCLA ” Daley enjoyed 18 kills, 21 digs and six blocks while beating Cal in five games. It was the Bruins’ 12th straight victory ” although it was short-lived. UCLA was beat by No. 2 ranked Stanford Friday in straight sets. Daley, an outside hitter, managed 12 kills and 10 digs in that match for
her eighth double-double of the year.
Megan Wisniewski (Forest Lake Christian, ’05); University of California, Santa Cruz ” Wisniewski, a sophomore outside hitter, played in two matches over the week. She had four kills, two blocks and two digs in a 3-0 win over Bethany. She doubled the fun with eight kills and four blocks in a 3-2 win over Chapman.
Torrey Haddad (Forest Lake Christian, ’07); Walla Walla University (College Place, Wash.) ” Haddad is the the starting setter for Walla Walla. On Sept. 24, she helped her team secure their first home win against Blue Mountain, three games to one.
Chris Ulinski (Nevada Union, ’05); Utah State ” In an intrastate loss to the Utah Utes, Ulinski, a freshmen kicker, kicked the ball off three times for 187 yards and a 62.3 average.
Brennan McFadden (Nevada Union, ’05); Utah State ” McFadden, a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman, saw action in Saturday’s loss to Utah.
Andrew Jackson (Nevada Union, ’06); Fresno State University ” The redshirt
freshman has taken over the right guard position for the Bulldogs, helping his team rumble for 170 yards and a touchdown Saturday in Fresno State’s 17-6 win over Lousiana Tech.
Zach Masch (Nevada Union, ’07); Arizona Western ” The Matadors lost 41-7 to Eastern Arizona College with Masch contributing with two solo tackles.
Mike McClain (Nevada Union, ’06); Yuba Community College ” McClain, playing from his outside linebacker position, recorded three tackles, one solo and two assisted, including a sack as Yuba Community College beat De Anza 23-7 on Saturday.
Josh Noxon (Nevada Union, ’06); Yuba Community College ” The 49ers beat De Anza 23-7 on Saturday with a strong helping hand from Noxon, who hauled in five catches for 100 yards. He also had two punt returns for 20 yards.
Bo Cassell (Nevada Union, ’05); Butte Junior College ” Cassell started for the Roadrunners on the offensive line, helping Butte beat Shasta College last week, 40-34 in quadruple overtime.
Courtney Paquin (Nevada Union, ’05); Belmont Abbey College (Belmont, N.C.) – A junior midfielder, Paquin gave an assist to help her team beat Pfeiffer 1-0 Saturday. She also started in a 7-0 rout of Coker on Tuesday.
Rachel Wittler (Nevada Union, ’07); William Jessup University ” Wittler started and played for the last three games as an outside defender for William Jessup. Her team beat Hope University 2-1 in overtime. Her team lost to Simpson University 3-0 but bounced back to beat Mills College 4-0.
