Alumni Notebook: Brown named MVP

Chris Brown (Nevada Union, ’03); Tabor College (Hillsboro, Kan.) ” Brown, a senior baseball player, was named Most Valuable Male Athlete at Tabor College for the 2007-08 school year.

The catcher led the Bluejays in batting this season, hitting .338 with seven home runs and 41 RBIs. He was the team’s MVP and a unanimous selection at catcher for the KCAC All-Conference and NAIA All-Region IV teams. In addition, he was an academic all-conference performer in the classroom.

The Bluejays finished 18-31 this season.



Brown transferred to Tabor College from Solano Community College, in which he hit .350 with three home runs and 26 RBIs and was named to the KCAC All-Conference second team. He also won the team’s Golden Glove Award.

In his career as a Bluejay, Brown has thrown out 36 of 90 base runners.




“I am happy for Chris,” said Bluejays head coach Chad Newhard in a press release. “He deserves all of the honors that come his way. Not only was he a tremendous asset to our team behind the plate but he also provided quality leadership for this team and is also a man of high character.”

Brown graduates this year with a degree in sociology with a concentration in psychology and social work. He’s accepted a position at the Salina, Kan., police department.
