Alumni notebook: Another honor for Sauer


Wade Sauer (Nevada Union, ’04); Fresno State – After placing sixth at the NCAA national championships earlier this year, earning All-American honors, Sauer was chosen as Cal State Fullerton’s Most Valuable Newcomer to the program this season. Sauer posted a 30-15 record on the year.

Scott Judd (Nevada Union, ’00); California State, Fullerton – A former United States Marine who wrestled in weight classes ranging from 165 to 184 pounds, Judd was honored with the Cal State Fullerton Academic Award. Judd had the team’s best grade point average and earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors.


Chad McCammon (Nevada Union, ’05); Sacramento City College – McCammon, a sophomore, placed third in the pole vault at the 2007 California State Championships meet in San Mateo. McCammon cleared the bar set at 4.74 meters, or 15 feet, 5 inches, on May 21.


Christina Guerland (Bear River, ’03); Yale – The senior second baseman was named to the Academic All-Ivy League team. A political science major, Guerland earned honorable mention to the All-Ivy League softball team and finished among the top 10 all-time in the Bulldog program for games played, at bats, runs, hits doubles, putouts and assists.


Erik Flores (Nevada Union, ’05); University of California, Los Angeles – Flores, who shot 9-under par in the three-day NCAA West Regional Tournament last week – helping UCLA to a second-place finish, will be back in action today in Murrieta attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open.

Flores is among the entrants listed to compete at the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier at Bear Creek Golf Club.


Gary Daley (Nevada Union, ’03); Palm Beach Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) – The 6-foot, 3-inch righthander saw action in two games on the mound this week. Daley struck out six, walked three and allowed four hits in six innings, while picking up a win over the Ft. Myers Miracle on Monday.

On Saturday, he struck out two while walking seven and allowing six hits and five earned runs in a no-decision performance against the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

Daley is 3-2 on the season with a 4.17 earned run average in 54 innings pitched.

Josh Roenicke (Nevada Union, ’01); Sarasota Reds (Cincinnati Reds) – Roenicke, a 6-foot-3 righthanded relief pitcher, collected two saves this week for Sarasota. In Tuesday’s win over Daytona, Roenicke struck out two in one inning of work.

On Saturday, in a win over Brevard County, he was back on the mound earning a save with one strikeout and one hit allowed in one inning of action. The save was the 15th of the season for Roenicke, who has posted a 3.86 ERA in 21 appearances.

Jason Roenicke (Nevada Union, ’04); Cuesta Community College – A sophomore pitcher, Roenicke was named second team All-Western State Conference.

Steven Davis (Nevada Union, ’05); Yuba Community College – Davis, a freshman catcher at Yuba College, was named second team All-Bay Valley Conference.

Nic Gauldin (Nevada Union, ’06); Yuba Community College – A freshman infielder and pitcher for the 49ers, Gauldin earned honorable mention to the All-Bay Valley Conference team.
