Here’s a look at how some athletes with local ties fared recently at the college level:


Erik Flores (Nevada Union, ’05); University of California, Los Angeles – Flores and the UCLA men’s golf team play in the NCAA Championships starting Wednesday at Sunriver, Ore.


Gary Daley (Nevada Union, ’03); Cal-Poly, San Luis Obispo – Daley pitched eight shutout innings Saturday night in Cal Poly’s 4-1 West West Conference win at home against UC-Santa Barbara. The 6-foot, 2-inch, 180-pound sophomore right-hander scattered four hits, struck out eight (one short of his career high) and walked three before an announced crowd of 1,267 at Baggett Stadium in San Luis Obispo. Daley improved his season record to 7-8. In his last three starts, he has allowed five earned and registered 18 strikeouts runs in 21 innings.

Justin Deme (Nevada Union, ’03); California State, Sacramento – The 6-foot, 2-inch, 220-pound sophomore righty pitched 1/3 of an inning in the Hornets’ season-ending 14-9 loss Friday afternoon against Louisiana Tech during the Western Athletic Conference Tournament at Beiden Field in Fresno. Sacramento State finished the season with a 20-37 record. Deme was 3-6 with a 4.72 ERA in 20 appearances.

Kody Keroher (Bear River, ’02); University of Nevada, Reno – Pitched 2/3 of an inning Saturday for the Wolf Pack in a 15-3 loss against Fresno State at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament in Fresno. Keroher, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior, allowed one run and got the final two outs (one a strikeout) in the seventh inning of the tournament’s winners bracket final. Fresno State scored six runs in the seventh to take an 11-3 lead. Nevada was eliminated from the tournament Saturday night with an 11-2 loss against Hawaii. One week before, on May 19, Keroher pitched two innings of one-hit ball to help Nevada close out a 16-7 WAC win at New Mexico State.


Chad Bartlomé (Nevada Union, ’01); Portland Timbers of the United Soccer League – The Timbers (3-4-1) face the Seattle Sounders in a home-and-home series this coming weekend. The two clubs play Friday at 7 p.m. in Seattle and Saturday at 7 p.m. at PGE Park in Portland.
