Here’s a look at how some athletes with local ties fared recently at the college level:

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Nicole Scott (Bear River, ’03); California State, East Bay (Hayward) – Scott scored 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field (3-for-3 on 3-pointers) and five rebounds to help the Pioneers to a 66-62 win against Notre Dame de Namur on Friday. The junior forward also scored eight points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field Saturday as the Pioneers defeated Cal-Maritime.



MEN’S BASKETBALL

Jon Sheets (Nevada Union, ’03); University of Maine – Sheets scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers to go with three assists for the Black Bears in their 67-53 win Thursday against New Hampshire. He converted a steal into a layup and free throw, a three-point play that helped stake Maine to an early 14-4 lead. Sunday, the junior guard had five points and four assists for the Black Bears in an 83-62 loss against UMBC.




Kelib Thompson (Nevada Union, ’02); Chico State – Thompson had four points and seven rebounds in 13 minutes to aid in Chico’s 88-61 win Saturday against San Francisco State. The junior center also scored in Chico’s 96-85 loss Friday against Sonoma State.

TRACK & FIELD

Steven Conrad (Nevada Union, ’04); Cal – Conrad, a sophomore, placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 22-feet, 71Ú4 inches for Cal in its indoor season opener at the Modrall Sperling Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

Matt Tyrell (Bear River, ’02); Idaho State – Tyrell ran to first-place in the 3,000 at Montana State’s MSU Open on Friday night in Bozeman. The senior was timed in 8 minutes, 34.56 seconds.

James Litchfield (Bear River, ’03); Idaho State – The junior pole vaulter placed fourth at the Montana State meet with a clearance of 14-feet, 43Ú4 inches. Idaho State’s vaulters are scheduled to compete at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno this coming weekend. The college competition will be held Saturday at the Reno Hilton.

GYMNASTICS

Mei Ling Clark (Nevada Union, ’02); UC-Davis – The senior posted a score of 9.600 to place third on the Uneven Parallel Bars for Davis in a 190.325-185.200 loss at Boise State on Friday.

Julia Richards (Nevada Union, ’03); UC Davis -Richards tied for fourth in floor exercise with a score of 9.425 and placed sixth on the balance beam with a 9.525 score against Boise State on Friday. The junior also tied for eighth in the vault with a score of 9.6.
