Here’s a look at how some college athletes with local ties fared recently:


Tor Brown (Nevada Union, ’94) – Brown, a nordic skiing instructor at North Star-at-Tahoe, was one of four nationwide to be named to the Professional Ski Instructors of America Nordic Demonstration Team April 30.

Brown, who competed against 16 of the nation’s top Nordic ski instructors in cross country, skate and telemark skiiing, received the competition’s highest score.


Sean Allstot (Bear River, ’01), Braidy Halverson (BR, ’01) -The duo won the California Beach Volleyball Association’s Class A Division Championship in Santa Cruz May 8-9.

Allstot and Halverson, who each play for the California State Polytechnic University-San Luis Obispo’s mens club team, went undefeated in pool play en route to the title.


Justin Deme’ (NU, ’03); CSU-Sacramento – The freshman pitcher allowed no runs on one hit in 1/3 of an inning’s work to earn his first career save in a 12-11 victory over the University of Northern Colorado Friday.

Gary Daley (NU, ’03); California State Polytechnic University-San Luis Obispo – The freshman pitcher gave up three runs on seven hits in three innings on the mound in a 13-12 loss to UC-Irvine May 9.
