Here’s a look at how some college athletes with local ties fared recently:
Paul Gross (Nevada Union, ’99); Stanford University (Palo Alto) – The senior 133-pounder went 2-2 to take fourth at the PAC 10 Wrestling Championships in Tempe, Ariz. Monday.
Gross qualified to compete in the NCAA Championships in St. Louis. Mo. March 18-20.
Kevin Holt (Forest Lake Christian, ’01); The Master’s College (Santa Clarita); The junior pitcher broke into the win column for the first time this season in Tuesday’s 7-3 victory over Westmont College (Santa Barbara).
The 6-foot, 7-inch southpaw, who upped his season record to 1-2, allowed three runs on three hits, walked five and fanned two in seven innings on the mound.
Justin Deme’ (NU, ’03); CSU-Sacramento – The freshman pitcher allowed two runs on three hits and walked one in an inning and one-third’s work in a 4-3 loss to UC-Berkeley Wednesday.
Tami Swanson-Cades (NU, ’99); California State Polytechnic University-Pomona – The senior guard notched a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with three assists in a 69-59 win over UC-San Diego Saturday.
Briana Thomas (Bear River, ’02); The Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The sophomore forward had five points, five rebounds an a steal in a 65-44 loss to the University of Wyoming (Laramie) Saturday.
Tiffany Chan (NU, ’01), Julia Richards (NU, ’03); University of California-Davis – Chan, a junior, won the vault (9.750) and tied for second in the floor excercise (9.875) in a dual-meet loss to CSU-San Jose Saturday.
Richards, a freshman. posted a score of 9.800 in the floor excercise.
Allyson Harvie (BR, ’02); Ohio State University (Columbus) – The sophomore posted a 13-over-par 155 over two rounds to finish tied for 38th at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. Feb. 24.
Jason Farnum (FLC, ’03); Sierra College (Rocklin) – The freshman carded a four-over-par 75 to take fourth overall and lead his team to a second-place finish in the Bay Valley Conference Tournament No.3 at Elk Horn C.C. in Stockton Wednesday.
Lindsey Roark (BR, ’00); University of California-Davis – The senior shortstop went 1-2 and had an assisted putout in a 3-0 win over CSU-Stanslaus (Turlock) Saturday.
Kristin Exline (BR, ’02); Stephen F. Austin State University (Nacogdoches, Texas) – The sophomore went 0-1 as a pinch hitter in a 4-3 loss to the University of Texas (Austin) Friday.
Michelle Mathis (BR, ’03); St. Mary’s University (Moraga) – The freshman designated hitter went 1-4 and drove in two runs in a 2-0 win over the University of the Pacific (Stockton) Feb. 29.
Stephanie Johansen (NU, ’01); Rutgers University (N.J.) – The junior left fielder went 1-3 in a 2-1 win over Mercer University (Atlanta) Sunday.
TRACK & FIELD
Paul Litchfield (BR, ’99); Idaho State Univertsity (Pocatello) – The senior pole vaulter won his event at the Intermountain State Games in Pocatello with a height of 16 feet, 11 inches Saturday.
Kevin Keyser (NU, ’00); University of California-San Diego – The senior middle hitter had eight kills and three digs in a 3-1 loss to Pepperdine University (Malibu) Friday.
