Here’s a look at how some college athletes with local ties fared recently:

BASEBALL

Gary Daley (NU, ’03); California State Polytechnic University-San Luis Obispo – The freshman pitcher struck out two, walked three and allowed one hit in three innings of work during a 17-0 win over Westmont College Wednesday.



Justin Demé (NU, ’03); CSU-Sacramento – The freshman pitcher allowed five hits and six earned runs in four innings of a 6-2 loss to Washington State Sunday.

BASKETBALL




Women’s

Tami Swanson-Cades (Nevada Union, ’99); California State Polytechnic University-Pomona – The senior guard had eight points, six rebounds and four assists in an 84-77 win over Sonoma State Saturday.

Briana Thomas (Bear River, ’02); The Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) – The sophomore forward scored two points in a 73-65 loss to Utah Saturday.

Kassidy Johnson (NU, ’99); CSU-Chico – The senior guard scored 13 points in an 89-73 win over Grand Canyon University Saturday, giving Chico State its ninth straight win, the longest for the Wildcats since their 1986-87 season.

Men’s

Kelib Thompson (NU, ’02), CSU-Chico – The sophomore post scored four points and grabbed five rebounds in a 93-50 win over Grand Canyon University Saturday.

GYMNASTICS

Tiffany Chan (NU, ’01), Mei-Ling Clark (NU, ’02), Julia Richards (NU, ’03); University of California-Davis – Richards posted career-high scores on both balance beam (9.775) and floor exercise (9.80) in a 192.175-192.050 loss to Sacramento State Sunday. Chan won the vault (9.825) and finished third on floor exercise. Clark took second in uneven bars (9.750).

SKIIING

Zach Violett (NU, ’99); University of Alaska-Anchorage – The junior nordic skier placed seventh in the 10-team Colorado Inviational in Eldora, Colo. Saturday. Violett was the Seawolves top finisher, clocking a time of 38:17.7 in the 15-kilometer freestyle.

SOFTBALL

Lindsey Roark (BR, ’00); University of California-Davis – The senior infielder went 2-for-5 with an RBI Saturday, as the Aggies split a doubleheader with San Francisco State, winning 1-0 and losing 4-3.

Kristin Exline (BR, ’02); Stephen F. Austin State University (Nacogdoches, Texas) – The sophomore infielder went 0 -for-3, while scoring a run and driving home another in a 7-1 win over Texas Southern University Wednesday.

Stephanie Johansen (NU, ’01); Rutgers University (New Brunswick, N.J.) – The junior infielder went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in an 8-6 win over Eastern Michigan in the FAU Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.

TRACK & FIELD

Sarah Prout (NU, ’03); University of Nevada-Reno – The freshman hurdler/multi-event athlete took 10th place in the high jump (4-6 1/4) and long jump (16-6), and 18th in the shot put (31-4 1/2) during the 2004 Holiday Inn Classic in Reno Saturday.

VOLLEYBALL

Kevin Keyser (NU, ’00); University of California-San Diego – The senior middle hitter had six kills in a 30-16, 30-26, 30-25 loss to No. 3-ranked Long Beach State. UCSC is currently ranked 13th in the nation.
