All-Star Little League opens

Nevada City’s 9-10-year-old All-Star Little League team opened up action this season with a nail-biter, returning home Monday night with a 13-12 victory over Sierra Foothills.

Trailing 12-10 with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Nevada City drew a walk to draw within one. Joey Souza stepped to the plate and hit a walk-off, 2 RBI double to give Nevada City the win.

Jordan Jiannino started on the mound, followed by Gabe Vulfs, Shawn Jordan and Souza, who struck out two and gave up a flyout on 13 pitches in the top of the sixth.

Jiannino hit two doubles while Vulfs and Dylan McClure added singles for Nevada City.

The team faces Foresthill at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Foresthill.
