All ages and abilities welcome at The Run for Friendship Aug. 16

There is no better time to be introduced to running or walking than during a cool summer morning. The Run for Friendship Saturday, Aug. 16 offers that opportunity.

The Run for Friendship, a 5k/10k run and 5k walk, the next race in the Gold Country Grand Prix running series, debuts a new course to the community through scenic Nevada City.

Both courses start and end at The Friendship Club, 138 New Mohawk Road in Nevada City. Both runs start at 7:30 a.m., while the walk commences five minutes later. The festivities include a disc jockey, warm-up exercises, master of ceremonies, post-race massages and a full complement of food and beverages.

The Friendship Club has been helping disadvantaged girls in Nevada County since 1995 with a year-round program of after-school tutoring, one-on-one mentoring, cultural field trips, peer support, community service opportunities, and a full summer enrichment program. The Run for Friendship is a fundraiser to support these activities.

Race day registration will be from 6-7 a.m. Entry is $20 for people 13-and-older and $15 for children 12-and-under. For participants who would like to register prior to race day, The Friendship Club facility will be open for pre-registration Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Those who register will receive a baseball cap.
