Casey Ullom is an offensive lineman for the Nevada Union Miners. Ullom, like many of NU’s other lineman, has been shuffled in and out of the lineup this year. But according to coaches, for the past three games he’s been a consistent force to run behind. Zuri Berry, The Union’s sports writer, caught up with Ullom this week and asked him about the line and the ups and downs of the season.

How has the season been for Nevada Union in a nutshell?

It’s been great. I’ve had an awesome time … besides the losses. I really like hanging out with my teammates and having a good time.

Do you see the offensive line getting a consistent five starters?

Eh … I don’t know, because on the offensive line there’s really a lot of rivalry. A lot of people are fighting. The second string is right there with the starters. The guys behind me are just as good as the starters. We really are fighting. I mean, the guys behind me should play just as much as me.

Do you feel like the Miners are finally coming into a groove?

Yeah, we are. I saw us show it a lot last week (against Laguna Creek).

How much do you guys pay attention to any criticism in the community?

Me personally, I really don’t. It’s really nothing. People say what they say. I’m out there to just play a sport and have fun.

How big was the win against Laguna Creek for the morale of the team?

It was huge. It really helped us a lot. I mean, it made us feel really good. It helped this week out a lot.
