Ross Maak

Ross Maak has more than 20 years experience in the newsroom, including news, sports and feature writing, design, headline writing and copy editing as well as holding down the positions of copy desk chief, news editor, opinion page editor and city editor over the years.

Maak (pronounced “make”) graduated with his degree in journalism from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. He’s worked for newspapers in Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada and California, including nearly 20 years with Swift Communications, a family-owned company that owns and operates The Union. This is Maak’s second stint in Grass Valley, having worked as a sports writer, copy editor and copy desk chief here between 2003-2012. He returned as city editor in December 2016.
