Former Nevada County prosecutor announces run for district attorney

Jennings

Former Nevada County Assistant District Attorney Glenn Jennings announced Monday that he'll run against his former boss in a bid to become the county's top prosecutor.

Jennings, 61, has served as a prosecutor for over 20 years. He currently works in the Butte County District Attorney's Office, where he prosecutes serious and violent crimes.

A Nevada County resident for 21 years, Jennings began working in 2014 for District Attorney Cliff Newell in the Truckee office. In early 2015 he was promoted to assistant district attorney, the office's No. 2 position. He left in October 2015.

"I saw my opponent hadn't drawn a candidate or opposition, and I couldn't stand by the sidelines without giving voters a choice," Jennings said.
Newell announced almost a year ago he'd seek a fourth term.

Jennings in a phone interview said that later this week he'd detail his reasons for running and the corruption he said he saw in the Nevada County District Attorney's Office.

"As an officer of the court, Jennings understands and honors the oath of office as well as his commitment to upholding the Constitution of the United States," Jennings states in a release. "He is looking forward to restoring integrity to the Office of Nevada County District Attorney as well as providing leadership, training, and mentorship to staff."
