‘Yes’ on Prop. 56

On March 2, voters will decide on a critically important proposition addressing California’s budget crisis – Proposition 56. A major change in this reform measure would reduce the two-thirds super-majority vote requirement for our state legislators to enact a budget to 55 percent. Why? Because the two-thirds requirement limits the prospects that responsible legislators and the governor will pass fair, reasonable budgets on time.

Let’s stop encouraging the practice of passing budgets after deadlines. Let’s stop forcing our elected officials to make political compromises that are bad public policy to get votes to satisfy an arbitrary threshold.
