Wrong side for roundabout?

A wonderful idea! A roundabout at the Gold Flat exit to ease the traffic congestion (The Union, Feb. 21). Excuse me, though, am I missing something? Shouldn’t the roundabout go on the other side of the freeway, on the southbound freeway access? That’s where the traffic often backs up to the Nevada City Highway as drivers try to negotiate a complex six-way freeway intersection. As proposed, it looks like the Caltrans driveway will have its own private $750,000 roundabout. Could this be a conflict of interest for Caltrans?
